VARANASI

The Holy City of Varanasi

Here you can see the Orange pilgrims which in the month of August have to walk all the way to the sacred Ganges, chanting the word 'Bolbam' which means the mother Ganga. They carry a long stick on the shoulders with 2 small vasins at each extreme. They then fill them up with the holy water and bring it back home. They actually seemed like a plague at times!! Orange world of Varanasi!

Sunrise in the Ganges. We managed to wake up at 5 in the morning, and between dream and real word we were taken to an amazing boat ride in the Ganges. This picture was taken by Edu, and you can see how IMPRESSIVE the whole thing was...
The main precaution to be taken while near the river is not to get too close to the water as the level of pollution is at times so high that it hasn't got any more oxigen left... then again, for Hindu believers is such a holy place that they not only bathe almost naked in it but they also drink from it, and throw the ashes of the cremated bodies 24/7 as well as many flowers, coconuts and other offerings to the Goddes Ganga. Quite an extrange but intense energy ...
